Other forms of Christianity have noted that they do not worship Mary but rather they venerate her. This kind of veneration is higher than any other saints (like the apostles) but lower to God. However, while they can define their own definition of the term, it is clearly stated in the Bible that worship, reverence, adoration, and veneration only belong to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Often, they even say that Mary mediates their prayers. Yet, no other name under heaven that can mediate us to the Father unless Jesus. Apostle Paul said in 1 Timothy 2:5, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.”

Other saints also pointed that true worship only belongs to Christ. No created being is worthy of reverence, veneration, or adoration. For instance, Peter refused to be revered by Cornelius. “As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man. (Acts 10:25-26).

Compare this to how Herod pridefully received praises and adoration of the people to him; “On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.” Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died” (Acts 12:21-24).

Even an angel, when John tried to offer adoration, the angel refused and pointed that the only object of worship is Jesus. “At this, I fell at his feet to worship him. But he [the angel] said to me, ‘Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus‘” (Revelation 19:10).

Nevertheless, if there’s one thing we can learn from Mary’s life, faithful obedience, and submission, it is in the first part of her song; “And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior” (Luke 1:46-7). Let us only worship Jesus with all the saints including Mary. Jesus alone deserves all praises, glory, reverence, and worship.
